Veterans Hospice Home

A Comforting Home for Veterans in Need of End-of-Life Care

Building on our 30-years in medical hospitality, VGH has identified a critical need: rural veterans cannot access hospice care. In response, VGH will offer a cost-free, private residence for veterans at end of life.

Our Unique Approach: Social-Model Hospice Home

Veterans Hospice Home is based on a national model that prioritizes comfort, dignity, and personal choice over clinical intervention. Our goal is to continue the same at-home feeling that the guest house established years ago.

Key Features of Our Hospice Home

  • Empowering Choice: Veterans enroll with a hospice provider of their choice, who will oversee their medical needs. Unlike traditional hospice facilities, VGH’s model allows veterans to choose their care providers, integrating multiple hospice services under one roof to accommodate a range of preferences.

  • Personalized Comfort: Veterans Hospice Home provides 24/7 support, companionship, and the comforts of home. Crafted with care, each private bedroom is filled with personalized touches that encourage special time with family and friends. Cozy common areas are available throughout the home for loved ones to gather, reflect, and support one another. Volunteers and caregivers, united by compassion, will join hospice providers to create a community of support around each veteran family.

  • Accessible and Free: With financial barriers lifted, veterans and their families can focus on spending quality time together without the stress of prohibitive costs or inadequate care.

The Need for Veteran Hospice Care in Nevada

Veterans across Nevada, especially in rural areas, face a lack of hospice care options. Many are left without resources, forced to navigate the end of life alone, often without support. The current hospice infrastructure for veterans is severely limited, with only ten hospice beds at the Reno VA Medical Center to serve over 150,000 veterans nearly half of whom are aged 65 or older.

The high cost of in-home care and limited capacity of local facilities make care unattainable for many veterans. When dying at home isn’t an option, VGH’s hospice home will offer veterans an alternative to institutionalized care.

Our Commitment to Veterans

VGH is dedicated to providing a peaceful end-of-life experience for veterans in need. Unlike traditional facilities, VGH’s hospice home is not funded by government sources, allowing us to serve veterans flexibly and inclusivity. Medicare covers hospice care, which is arranged directly between the veteran and the chosen hospice provider, independent of VGH’s services.

VGH’s hospice home offers more than a place to stay; it provides a peaceful haven and closure at end of life for veterans who have served their country.

Join Us in Honoring Veterans

This home and the services provided will be a gift, offered entirely free of charge through your generosity and the kindness of other community-minded leaders. VGH invites community members, volunteers, and leaders interested in learning more to join us in this vital effort.
